Applying Henna for Beginners

By Farah Syed
on August 05, 2014

Hello All!

Recently, I've been getting a lot of question on how to apply henna in a professional, clean and fast way. The trick is practice, practice and practice. When I finished my MBA I got married and wanted to start a family, as a result I put my career in information management on hold. Bored at home and with the financial stresses of being newly weds and a recent grad I decided to start my henna business.

IMO to be successful at anything, you must LOVE doing it. I love the the art of henna, it has been a passion of mine since I was a child. It's not primarily for the money (although it helps :)). That being said, how can you go from a good artist to a great one? Here are some tips;

-Practice! One technique I used was to apply henna on a ceramic plate. You can use paper but reusing ceramic plates is more environmentally friendly. I have also used mirrors and glass.

-Educate yourself! Understand the different styles of henna, this is essential when I am dealing with the vast array of cultures. Arabic, indo-pak, modern, Moroccan etc. There are a ton resources out there, just Google it.

-Watch other artists apply henna. The grip of the cone, the pressure applied, the position of your subject, their posture etc. I am in the process of creating a Youtube series that will show the various techniques. There are some great video, simply search Youtube.

-Ask me! I am more than happy to help :)

Have a wonderful day!

Hi there,

I am writing this article to answer those questions that my clients always ask me ”What is the difference between Arabic Henna design and Indian Intricate Henna design?” Below you will find a comprehensive explanation of both styles. You will also find description of a third henna style which is called “Indo-Arabic Henna style”. It is a stunning blend of both styles.

There are few more popular henna styles namely Moroccan Henna, Pakistani Henna, Afghani henna, Khaliji henna and Moghlai Henna. I will discuss them in another article

Arabic Henna Style

Arabic Henna Style contains bold lines, leaves and floral patterns. The design is more defined with spaces in between the design. Below are some illustrations of this henna style drew by Farah Syed of Leezee’s Henna Art

Indian Intricate Henna Style

On the other hand Indian Intricate Henna style is composed of repetitive lines and patterns without any gap in the design. The main design elements are peacocks and paisleys. Sometime it is combined with visuals of musical instruments and wedding scenes. Below are some pictures of Indian henna style drew by Farah Syed of Leezee’s Henna Art

Indo-Arabic Henna Style

Indo –Arabic henna style is getting popularity in North American and European brides. It is a beautiful combination of bold lines, leaves, flowers and intricate henna patterns. More than 50% of my brides choose this style to enhance their bridal beauty. Below are some examples of this style don by Farah Syed of Leezee’s Henna Art

Beeswax candles are a pure and clean burning product.  Candles made from beeswax are cost effective burners that produce negative ions which cleanse the air of the dust, odours, toxins and pollens.   Using beeswax candles gives you and your home the benefit of feeling harmonious and balanced, simply put the ambiance created can lift the human spirit. Burning clean candles is the way to go for your health and the environment. Beeswax candles are completely non-toxic, non-allergenic and non-carcinogenic. Leezee’s Henna Art has a selection of hand decorated beeswax candles to offer a warm, beautiful and decorative glow to your home. Contact us for details on our show room hours, for candles and Leezee’s Henna inspired art.

*never leave lit candles un-attended. Keep lit candles away from clothing, and children

Leezee’s fresh and pure henna powder imported from Rajasthan is the secrete ingredient of our dark stained henna paste .This powder is specially sifted to make a silky smooth henna paste without any clogging. It gives dark cherry to dark brown color to your skin. No chemical added.

Try our pure essential oils to mix your next batch of henna paste. We carry Tea tree oil, Eucalyptus oil, Clove oil and Lavender oil.
