Black Henna - Warning!

By Farah Syed
on August 05, 2014

Henna Friends and Fans!

I often get asked for black henna applications and i'm a little surprised at the volume of inquiries. Leezee's does NOT use black henna and neither should anyone. Black henna can be very dangerous as it contains a chemical called PPD.

What is PPD:

PPD (para-phenylenediamine) is a black chemical dye that may cause severe allergic reactions. Unfortunately, henna products are often labeled "Natural" but contain traces of this chemical. Leezee's does not use or promote black henna and we strongly recommend NOT using it. PPD has been linked to cancer, it has also been know to burn skin and cause sever reactions.

As always, if you have any questions please ask :)

Applying Henna for Beginners

By Farah Syed
on August 05, 2014

Hello All!

Recently, I've been getting a lot of question on how to apply henna in a professional, clean and fast way. The trick is practice, practice and practice. When I finished my MBA I got married and wanted to start a family, as a result I put my career in information management on hold. Bored at home and with the financial stresses of being newly weds and a recent grad I decided to start my henna business.

IMO to be successful at anything, you must LOVE doing it. I love the the art of henna, it has been a passion of mine since I was a child. It's not primarily for the money (although it helps :)). That being said, how can you go from a good artist to a great one? Here are some tips;

-Practice! One technique I used was to apply henna on a ceramic plate. You can use paper but reusing ceramic plates is more environmentally friendly. I have also used mirrors and glass.

-Educate yourself! Understand the different styles of henna, this is essential when I am dealing with the vast array of cultures. Arabic, indo-pak, modern, Moroccan etc. There are a ton resources out there, just Google it.

-Watch other artists apply henna. The grip of the cone, the pressure applied, the position of your subject, their posture etc. I am in the process of creating a Youtube series that will show the various techniques. There are some great video, simply search Youtube.

-Ask me! I am more than happy to help :)

Have a wonderful day!

At the first glance you will be admiring floral patterns on this canvas and will be wondering about the meaning of center object. This canvas art has a philosophy behind it.

Consultation Secession

One of my lovely clients came over and asked me if I can understand and portrait her idea on the canvas. It was quite interesting and challenging task. I grabbed a pen a paper and asked her to go ahead and explain her idea. I made notes on the one side of paper and drew a rough sketch on the other side of paper (in this way I save papers, trees and planet). We had a one hour session of discussion and then she left happily.

Dilemma

My challenge was to make this 45cm X 60cm canvas only in 36 hours and taking care of two toddlers at the same time. However when there is a will, there is a way. I made this master piece by working late night after putting my boys to bed.

Success

This canvas art was in my clients hands on time. This canvas is a present for a bride and groom from 19 little cousins. I used Silver, green and mauve glitters to coordinate it with the wedding theme colors. The hands in the middle symbolize that all 19 cousins are praying for the bride and groom for their life time happiness and prosperity. The names of all cousins are written in Arabic calligraphy in heart shaped patterns to show their love.

It was an amazing feeling when I handed it over to my glad and smiling client. She was amazed how she can view her vision beautifully drawn on the canvas.

The beauty and characteristics of Arabic Henna Style and Indian Intricate Henna style

Hi there,

I am writing this article to answer those questions that my clients always ask me ”What is the difference between Arabic Henna design and Indian Intricate Henna design?” Below you will find a comprehensive explanation of both styles. You will also find description of a third henna style which is called “Indo-Arabic Henna style”. It is a stunning blend of both styles.

There are few more popular henna styles namely Moroccan Henna, Pakistani Henna, Afghani henna, Khaliji henna and Moghlai Henna. I will discuss them in another article

Arabic Henna Style

Arabic Henna Style contains bold lines, leaves and floral patterns. The design is more defined with spaces in between the design. Below are some illustrations of this henna style drew by Farah Syed of Leezee’s Henna Art

Indian Intricate Henna Style

On the other hand Indian Intricate Henna style is composed of repetitive lines and patterns without any gap in the design. The main design elements are peacocks and paisleys. Sometime it is combined with visuals of musical instruments and wedding scenes. Below are some pictures of Indian henna style drew by Farah Syed of Leezee’s Henna Art

Indo-Arabic Henna Style

Indo –Arabic henna style is getting popularity in North American and European brides. It is a beautiful combination of bold lines, leaves, flowers and intricate henna patterns. More than 50% of my brides choose this style to enhance their bridal beauty. Below are some examples of this style don by Farah Syed of Leezee’s Henna Art
